The Condition Indicator (CI) value for a laser surface point feature is a number from 0 (zero) to 1 inclusive. It indicates the quality of the points distribution.
If the CI is equal to or greater than 0.5, "small" changes in the input point distribution produce "small" changes to the calculated output values.
Is the CI is less than .0.5, "small" changes in the input point distribution produce "big" changes to the calculated output values. This means that the input point distribution for the calculation is poor.
A huge number of input points concentrated within a small region around a pole of a sphere give a low CI, since few changes in the input points might lead to big changes for the radius and center. Even a few points distributed at least on half the sphere give a high CI.
The CI is an objective estimate because it is calculated by a mathematical algorithm.
If the laser surface point feature has not yet been measured or extracted, PC-DMIS initially sets the value to NONE.
