GM Naming Rules for the K2001 Field

K2001 is the characteristic number. To create the K2001 characteristic with a GM-approved name, follow the rules below. The rules describe how to name features and dimensions in a measurement routine.

K2001 Naming Requirements

Rules for Naming Dimensions in PC-DMIS

The name of every dimension in a measurement routine should have 10 or more digits. You can provide a longer name, but the Q-DAS Configurator GM rule for K2001 uses only the first 10 digits when it creates the K2001 field.

You can use underscores for characters 6 and 7 (the evaluation type). If you use underscores, the converter inserts the proper evaluation type based on the evaluation symbol in the dimension. If the converter is wrong, you still have control to change it in the K2001 column. If characters 6 and 7 are not underscores, the converter does not insert the symbol.

If the name is 11 or more characters long, the converter ignores the digits after the first 10. This enables you to provide your own name.

For exact measure dimensions, you must name the features according to the naming rules described above.

Converter Rules

The converter does the following:

  1. It takes the first 10 digits of the dimension and uses it as K2001.

  2. It fills up digits 6 and 7 if they are underscores. It keeps characters 6 and 7 if they are not underscores.

  3. If the name is longer than 10 digits, it ignores the digits after the first 10.

For exact measure, the converter reads the name of each item and appropriately creates the K2001 value.
