Editing PC-DMIS Setting Entries
In Connected mode, the setting entries are loaded into
the PC-DMIS Settings Editor. You can then use the Settings Editor to modify
those entries.
To edit PC-DMIS setting entries, follow these steps:
Run the Settings Editor. You can use the Settings
Editor to edit entries even while PC-DMIS is running. However, some
entry changes may not take effect until you restart PC-DMIS.
Click Connect to
load in the entries. It may take a minute to load all of the entries.
Once the entries are loaded, you can use the PC-DMIS Settings Editor
to find and edit any user-definable entry.
Click the plus sign next to the section that
you want to modify. The list expands and shows all the entries in
that section. Each entry uses formatting to indicate whether or not
the entry is modified from its default value. In addition, a small
icon appears next to the entry to indicate the user privilege level
necessary to modify the entry:
Plain - A setting entry without any boldface
formatting indicates that the default factory value is used. In
this case, a physical entry does not yet exist in the JSON files.
Boldface - A
entry in boldface means one of two things:
An actual entry exists in your JSON
file, or
The entry's value is something other
than the default entry.
- This icon indicates
that the entry is a User-specific, User-changeable
entry. This type of entry allows each user to have his or her
own value. Any user can change this value.
- This icon indicates
that the entry is a User-specific Administrator-changeable
entry. Only a user with administrator access can change this type
of entry.
- This icon indicates
that the entry is a System-wide User-changeable
entry. This type of entry is shared by all users, and any user
can change this value.
- This icon indicates
that the entry is a System-wide Administrator-changeable
entry. This type of entry is shared by all users, but only a user
with administrator access can change this type of entry.
These four buttons,
located at the bottom of the Settings Editor, correspond to the user and
system icons listed above. When you click each button, it shows or hides
all entries that are tied to its specific user privilege level. This enables
you to filter the entries that appear.
Select the entry that you want to change. The
PC-DMIS Settings Editor displays information related to the entry
you selected.
Section Name
- This box displays what section the entry falls under (for example,
[Option] was a section in the old Pcdlrn.ini
file).
Entry Name -
This box displays the entry's name.
Entry Type -
This box displays what type of value is needed to modify the entry.
These include types such as boolean, string, double, integer,
whole number, DWORD, and so on.
Current Value
- This box displays the value of the selected entry. If the value
that appears is NONE, you can see that
it is followed by a value in parentheses. For example, you might
see something like NONE(0). NONE
indicates that you haven’t changed a entry from its default value.
The value in parentheses represents the default value; in this
case, a zero. PC-DMIS initially uses the default value for the
entries. When you change a value, PC-DMIS then adds a new key
to the JSON file for that entry.
Change the value of the setting in the Current Value box, and then press Tab or click
anywhere outside of the field. The Settings Editor stores a temporary
record of your change.
Continue making changes as desired. As you
move off of the field, the current value is temporarily saved for
that entry.
The Settings Editor doesn't
actually update the JSON file with the changes you made until you click
Save. Prior to this, you can always revert a
selected entry back to what it was before you started the current session
by clicking the Undo button. Likewise, Undo All reverts all changed settings back to
what they were.
Click the Save button
to permanently save all of your changes for all the modified entries.
Click Close once
you have finished using the Settings Editor. The Settings Editor closes.
If you have entries that weren't saved when you click Close,
a dialog box appears and asks if you want to save or discard your
changes.
If PC-DMIS was running while you were making
changes, restart PC-DMIS to load in any modified entries.
