Working with Backup Files and User Data

The PC-DMIS Settings Editor provides you with buttons to backup, restore, or reset user data files. In Connected mode, you cannot reset product or user data in this mode.

• Backup - This button displays the Backup dialog box. This dialog box lets you choose what data to send to the backup .zip file and where to store the backup file. This is often useful when submitting information for bug reporting.

File - This box lets you specify a backup filename and the location where the filename will be stored. The filename must have a .zip extension.

System Files - This check box includes any system files in the backup.

User Files - This check box includes user data files.

Registry Settings - This check box includes an export of your PC-DMIS entries.

.prg - This check box lets you choose a measurement routine to include with the backup.

.cad - This check box lets you choose a cad file to include with the backup.

.prb - This check box lets you choose a probe file to include with the backup.

User Specified File A - This check box lets you choose a miscellaneous file of your choice to include with the backup.

User Specified File B - This check box lets you choose a different miscellaneous file of your choice to include with the backup.

• Restore - This button displays the Restore dialog box. This dialog box lets you choose a backup .zip file to restore and what specific data files from that .zip file you want to restore. The backup file must be a backup file created from the Backup dialog box. You can backup from an earlier version of PC-DMIS and import it into a more recent one (for example, v2010 MR2 into v2010 MR3.

• Reset Product - This button deletes all of the PC-DMIS related entries from JSON files.

  This button resets all modified PC-DMIS settings in the JSON files (UserSettings.json and SystemSettings.json) to their default factory values.

The software saves your license details in the License.json file which does not get reset.

You should only reset the product if you know how to reconfigure PC-DMIS. Before you use this button, be sure to first create a backup by using the Backup button.

• Reset User - This button resets user data files and user-specific entry settings to their default factory settings. This removes all the entries from the UserSettings.json file.

• Import - This button displays an Import dialog box that lets you import settings and data files from a previous version.

Import Registry and Data Files from Version - This list contains the older PC-DMIS versions from which you can import settings and data files.

• In version 2010 MR1 and earlier, user data files were contained within the install directory. PC-DMIS therefore requires that you define the location of the PC-DMIS install folder for any of these versions. Also, for these versions if you want to import their entries, you have to manually define the location of an exported .dat file using the PCDRegFile.dat location box.

• In version 2010 MR2 and later, PC-DMIS stores your user data files within your Windows user directory, and it automatically knows the location of the data files for any of these versions, so you don't need to specify the installation directory.

• In version 2010 MR3 and later, these versions have version-specific entries, and those entries are automatically imported as part of your user settings.

Install Folder - This box lets you define the pathway to the PC-DMIS installation folder. You can also use the browse button to browse to the installation folder.

Import PCDRegFile.dat - This area becomes available for selection only if you've selected version 2010 MR2 or earlier. Use the browse button to navigate to the location of the .dat file containing the PC-DMIS entries that were exported from the PC-DMIS Settings Editor. The file is usually named PCDRegFile.dat.

Import - These buttons begin the import process.
