Troubleshooting Firewalls that Block CLM Admin's Ability to Access the Activation Server

Issue: Outbound firewalls block the CLM application's ability to access the activation server. If the CLM application cannot access the activation server, you cannot activate entitlements via the Internet.

Resolution: To resolve this, you need to temporarily or permanently update the firewall to allow access to the activation server, or you must use offline activation.

To Update the Firewall

The CLM Admin and CLM Admin - Server communicate with two different servers. The activation server is required for license activation. The description server is not required for license activation.

Activation Server:

Server name: licensing.wilcoxassoc.com.

Port information: TCP port 443 (https) is used.

Description Server:

This server provides descriptions for the item codes that the license contains. Access to this server is not required in order to activate or update licenses.

Server name: clmsrv.wilcoxassoc.com

Port information: TCP port 443 (https) is used.

Other Considerations

Some products periodically check with the activation server in order to check for license updates. For license updates to function properly, the firewall must continue to allow access to the activation server. If access to the activation server is not possible, activated products continue to function normally, but you won't be able to get updates.
