Constructing a Best Fit or Best Fit Recompensate Slot

The Best Fit (BF) and the Best Fit Recompensate (BFRE) are constructed from five or more features. The constructed slots vector is normal (perpendicular) to the workplane. The BFRE construction uses the ball center combined with the probe radius to compute the slot. The compensation is an integral part of the fitting. The BF construction compensates the measured points prior to fitting.

The height of the slot from the workplane is the average of all the input features.

To construct a Best Fit or Best Fit Recompensate slot:

  1. Open the Construct Slot dialog box (Insert | Feature | Constructed | Slot).

  2. From the Method list, select either the Best Fit or Best Fit Recompensate option (shown as Best Fit and BF Recomp).

  3. From the Feature list, select at least four features. They can be any feature type.

For Best Fit (BF) or Best Fit Recompensate (BFRE) constructions, while you can use any feature type for your input features, BF and BFRE fit types are typically used with point features or point sets (a scan of points, a feature set with points, or an expression that resolves to an array of points).

  1. Select the In or Out option. For details, see the "In / Out Slot" topic in this documentation.

  2. Select either the 2D or 3D option. For details, see the "2D / 3D Slot" topic in this documentation.

  3. If you want to change the feature theoretical values, select the Feature theoreticals check box and type in the values. For details, see the "Specifying Feature Theoreticals" topic in the PC-DMIS Core documentation.

  4. Click the Create button.

The Edit window command line for the Best Fit or Best Fit Recompensate Slot would read:
CONSTR/SLOT,BF (or BFRE),feat_1,feat_2, ...
