Condition Indicator Estimate

The Condition Indicator (CI) value for a laser surface point feature is a number from 0 (zero) to 1 inclusive. It indicates the quality of the points distribution.

A huge number of input points concentrated within a small region around a pole of a sphere give a low CI, since few changes in the input points might lead to big changes for the radius and center. Even a few points distributed at least on half the sphere give a high CI.

The CI is an objective estimate because it is calculated by a mathematical algorithm.

If the laser surface point feature has not yet been measured or extracted, PC-DMIS initially sets the value to NONE.
