Importing a MetIL File

(The information in this topic contains file-specific information for the "General Import Procedure" covered in the "Importing CAD Data" topic.)

MetIL files come from the Metrology Mentor, which is a part of the Nexus platform. MetIL files are in a .json format that contains measurement instructions. For each Metrology Mentor measurement plan, there are two files:

<planname>.metil.json and <planname>.analysis.json, where <planname> is the name of Metrology Mentor plan.

MetIL Converter

PC-DMIS MetIL Converter converts MetIL instructions into PC-DMIS commands. You need to add alignment to the measurement routine.

To convert MetIL instructions into PC-DMIS commands:

  1. Create a Metrology Mentor measurement plan.

  2. From the measurement plan, generate a program to create the MetIL and Analysis files.

  3. Download the MetIL and Analysis files.

  4. Open PC-DMIS.

  5. Create a measurement routine in inch or mm units.

In the New Measurement Routine dialog box, you must select the ASME Y14.5 - 2009/2018 option from the GD&T Standard list.

  1. Import the same CAD file that you used to create the MetIL file.

  2. From the PC-DMIS menu, select File | Import | MetIL.

  3. Navigate to the folder where you stored the MetIL files.

  4. Select a <planname>.metil.json file.

PC-DMIS starts the conversion and display the commands in the Edit window.
