Working with Mapped Network Drives

You may have measurement routine files stored on a mapped network drive that you want to expose to Inspect. To do this, you need to create a user-defined folder reference to the UNC path inside of the Settings screen. However, because mapped network drives are used at the user level, when you run Inspect as an administrator, you can't just browse to the network drive and select it.

To get around this, the following procedure gives you a way to locate your mapped drives and create the folder reference:

  1. Run Inspect as an administrator.

  2. From the sidebar click Settings to access the Settings screen.

  3. Access the Folder Explorer section.

  4. Click Create New User Folder.

  5. Locate the UNC (Uniform Naming Convention) pathway for your mapped network drive:

    1. From your Start menu, run Windows PowerShell (Do not run this as an administrator.)

    2. When PowerShell opens, type this command:

net use

    1. When you press Enter, PowerShell shows any mapped network drives.

    2. From the Remote column, select the entire UNC path, starting with \\.

    3. Press Ctrl + C to copy the path to the Clipboard.

  1. In Inspect, in Path, paste the UNC path.

  2. Define the extension and label.

  3. Then click the white check mark (Accept button) to accept the folder reference.

If the network is connected, you can access the Home screen to see it.
