Enabling Protected Mode
To protect a measurement routine from unwanted edits, you can select the Edit | Protected Mode menu option to enable Protected Mode. This menu option is only available if you haven't yet opened a measurement routine.
When you select this menu option, PC-DMIS shows the Set Protected Mode Password dialog box. It has two options to define a password to enable Protected Mode:
To define the password, type the same string of characters into the two boxes, and click OK. When you enable Protected Mode, a check mark appears next to the Protected Mode option on the Edit menu.
The Protected Mode password supersedes and overwrites any other password you have defined. This means that if you have enabled password protection for the Setup Options dialog box (Edit | Preferences |Setup) or for an .ipd (Inspection Plan Default) file, you need to use the password you defined when you enabled Protected Mode.
The PC-DMIS administrator can create marked sets, which allow the execution of a partial measurement routine. The operator can execute marked sets in Protected Mode.
To protect your measurement routine, when you are in Protected Mode, you cannot do the following:
Modify commands
Add commands
Modify some settings
Calibrate probes
Once you enable Protected Mode on a computer, you cannot modify any measurement routines for that version of PC-DMIS for anyone logging onto that computer as long as Protected Mode is enabled.
With Protected Mode enabled, you can still do the following:
View the Edit window and Report window
Load and view different report templates
Change the marking state of commands
Execute the measurement routine
You cannot modify the measurement routine or reporting templates in any way.
The main visual indicators that PC-DMIS is in Protected Mode are these:
Only a few menus exist, and you cannot edit most of the options on those menus. For example:
Only the Edit Window toolbar, Probe Mode toolbar, and Graphic View toolbar are available.
PC-DMIS displays the Edit window only in Summary mode. (PC-DMIS disables Command mode and DMIS mode.)
How to Disable Protected Mode
To disable Protected Mode, do the following:
Close all open measurement routines.
Select Edit | Protected Mode to open the Protected Mode Password dialog box.
Enter your password.
Click OK.
PC-DMIS then removes all of the above editing restrictions.
