Importing XYZ Feature Data into the Measurement Routine

An XYZ file is a simple text file with a .xyz extension. It can contain feature information in the form of xyz coordinates with or without a vector. You can use any standard text editor to view the values in an .xyz file.

To import an XYZ file into the Edit window, follow these steps:

  1. Select File | Import | XYZ into Measurement Routine to open the Import dialog box.

  2. From the file type list, select the file type that filters the current folder. If you select XYZ Files, you can choose to import a .xyz file.

  3. From the Import dialog box, navigate to the folder that contains the file to import. Then select the file.

  4. Click Import to import the file. PC-DMIS interprets the XYZ data and imports it into the Edit window as separate feature commands.

For information on how the software interprets the XYZ data in the file, see "Importing an XYZ File as CAD Data".
