Procedure for Calibrating Tips at any Non-MEA Location

To calibrate probe tips at non-MEA locations:

  1. If you haven’t already qualified a tip at the MEA location with the probe file you intend to use, see the topic "Procedure for Calibrating Tips at the MEA Location".

Otherwise, select a probe file that has already been qualified at the MEA location.

  1. Move the qualification tool to the desired location.

  2. To ensure the best accuracy, select the probe file that was already qualified at the MEA location and click the Measure button.

  3. Add a qualification tool if one has not been previously created.

DO NOT use the MEA_MECH_OFS_SPHERE or MEA_CALIB_SPHERE qualification tools.

If you mistakenly choose the MEA_CALIB_SPHERE qualification tool, the CMM drives to the MEA location and attempt to calibrate tips at this location since the MEA_CALIB_SPHERE is used ONLY at the MEA location.

If you use the MEA_MECH_OFS_SPHERE, it modifies the previously saved controller parameters and invalidate the previous configuration.

  1. Set the desired parameters.

  2. Click the Measure button to calibrate tips at the new location.

  3. Click Yes to the message: "Has the qualification tool been moved or has the Machine zero point changed?" to store the new tool location.

If you wish to move the sphere again, you need to repeat the above procedure.

If you are upgrading to interface DLL version 3.17 or later, from an earlier version, you can copy the mechanical offset values without having to reestablish them via the Probe Utilities dialog box (Insert | Hardware Definition | Probe). For details, see the topic "Procedure to Copy Mechanical Offset Values from Sheffield Key to USER_Sheffield Key".
